HMS Show Choir auditions are Thursday. Make sure you know when you’re supposed to be in the choir room. You may check with Mr. Litten.
Note for guys: Due to a large number of students auditioning for show choir this year, boys will NOT need to learn the choreography but will instead have an interview with Mr. Litten and be expected to sing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” in front of Mr. Litten. Guys auditition/interview will be finished by 3:45pm.
ALL GIRLS: There is an extra practice/learning session for the choreography on Wednesday after school until 4:45pm. I strongly suggest you attend this session although it is not required. We will be going over the choeography and Mr. Litten will be available to answer any questions you have. This is a great opportunity to practice the choreography in the room in which you will be expected to perform in front of the judges.
1. There are 2 videos, one slow and one regular speed. You will be expected to perform the choreography at regular speed, the song will not be slowed down. There is also the mp3 of the song which will be used during auditions. Practice while watching the video as much as possible then, once you feel comfortable, pratice with the mp3. If you practice with your group then they can help you fix any errors.
2. The video is shot from the front (the perspective of the performers). The choreographer in the video is “mirroring” what should be performed. You need to mirror exactly what you see on the video, for example, in the final position/pose the choreographer’s right arm is raised diaganally with palm up, when you perform the choreogaphy you will have your left arm raised diagonally with palm facing up.
3. It’s difficult to see what the choreographer’s hands are doing when they are above her head because the camera frame doesn’t fit. We are only doing 2 hand positions, fists (hands clenched in a fist) and blades (fingers streached out with thumb tucked in). Watch the choreographers opposite hand, the hand in the camera’s frame, for the position of your upper hand.
4. The judges will be made aware of how little preperation time you have had with the video. All students will be judged on a fair and level basis. Don’t use this as an excuse to not work your hardest. The choreography judges are looking far beyond clean choreography, they are also looking for character (stage presence, facial expressions, etc.), confidence, and enthusiasm. Find a way to stand out.
Good luck and thank you for your interest.
